Legetyo Queens is a powerful and dynamic organisation dedicated to uplifting, inspiring, and empowering Kalenjin women across all walks of life. Founded in South Australia in 2021 by a strong group of Kalenjin women in the local community, Legetyo Queens was born from a shared vision of creating an Australian network of empowered Kalenjin women.
The organisation brings women together to support one another, celebrate cultural identity, and foster personal and professional growth. Through connection, mentorship, and community engagement, Legetyo Queens aims to build confidence, leadership, and opportunities for Kalenjin women across Australia.
The name “Legetyo” is derived from the traditional legetyet, a beaded leather belt worn by Kalenjin mothers, symbolizing protection and resilience. Just as the legetyet serves to safeguard and support children, Legetyo Queens provides a nurturing and empowering environment for Kalenjin women. This emblem of strength is connected to Ephesians 6:14, which states, “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place.” The legetyet embodies the strength, resilience, and righteousness that women carry as they uplift and protect their families and communities.
Our Purpose and Programs
Legetyo Queens provides a supportive space for women to connect, grow, and thrive. Our programs span various aspects of empowerment, including personal development, leadership skills, financial literacy, health and wellness, cultural awareness, and spiritual growth. A Legetyo Queen is a woman ready for change and dedicated to making a difference. She is gifted, eager to share her talents with others, and believes that her potential flourishes when she lifts up those around her. She exemplifies resilience, courage, and a passion for community, inspiring other women to pursue their dreams and fostering a spirit of collaboration.
