Legetyo Queens empowers Kalenjin women through personal development, leadership training, and a supportive community rooted in spiritual growth. We build resilience, foster collaboration, and honor cultural heritage, paving the way for every woman to realize her dreams, uplift those around her, and connect deeply with her inner strength.
Vision Statement
To build a global community of empowered Kalenjin women who embrace spiritual strength, celebrate their cultural heritage, and inspire transformation within their families and communities. We envision a world of boundless possibilities, grounded in faith and purpose, for all women.
Despite some progress, we still have a long way to go. Many Kalenjin girls are denied access to education, and many more are forced into early marriages every year. Violence against the Kalenjin woman and girls remains prevalent, with one in five experiencing physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetimes. Kalenjin Women’s representation in decision-making positions remains far from parity, and the gender pay gap persists.
In today’s world, we still see disparities in various areas, from equal pay for equal work to the representation of women in decision-making roles. These gaps hinder our progress towards a future free from poverty and conflict as envisioned by the 2030 Agenda. Women and girls are often the ones missing from these spaces, highlighting the urgent need for action.
Education is key to empowering the Kalenjin women and girls and breaking the cycle of inequality. It equips them with the skills and knowledge to assert their rights, challenge discrimination, and participate fully in society. However, education alone is not enough. We need to address systemic barriers, such as the unequal division of household work and caregiving responsibilities, which limit women’s economic and social opportunities.
Government and private sector leaders have a crucial role to play in implementing policies that support gender equality, such as paid parental leave and affordable childcare. Changing societal attitudes and stereotypes through media representation and promoting women’s participation in sports can also contribute to progress.
